New Zone Provisioning
The BevelCloud team completed the provisioning of a zone at a major US hospital. When we provision a zone, we deploy a cloud server inside the firewall. As many of you know, this requires meetings with security and privacy experts at the zone as well as coordination with numerous network administrators and engineers. While it’s a long process, the beauty is that deploying the second server is very simple. This provisioning was the first where we used on-the-ground expertise from the team at Sayers Consulting, a firm that provides technology solutions and services focused on infrastructure, cloud, cybersecurity, and IT strategy. They will be a key partner as we scale.
This is another milestone in funding the Distributed AI Lab. The Distributed AI Lab will have 32 zones, all imaging machine data available in real-time, as well as data from the PACS and EMR applications. Once ready, we sized it at roughly 3,000 distributed servers with over 2,000 TB of data flowing through it annually.
Annual USF Crawford Lecture
Dr. Chou was invited to deliver a lecture at the University of San Francisco by Eileen Fry-Bowers, who is Dean of Nursing and Healthcare Professionals. The university posted the lecture.
The talk had the unintended consequence of spurring work on a nursing program powered by AI. Stay tuned as we’ll follow this one closely.
Distributed AI Clinical Trial Recruiting App
The Pediatric Moonshot mission began by focusing on real-time data from machines: ultrasounds, CT, MRI. To do this, BevelCloud had to engineer a distributed AI cloud infrastructure that places cloud servers inside the firewall.
With the help of Data Science Dojo, we are demonstrating a distributed AI application that accelerates clinical trial recruitment, enabled by two crucial pieces of information: the patient's medical record and the drug protocol document.

AppCommons: Deep Learning in Medical Imaging
As many of our active followers know already, AppCommons is a curated list of over 130 research projects from around the world. They cover all the primary specializations and many of the different imaging modalities. They all share one other common thread: they were all trained on small data sets. All are candidates for the Distributed AI Lab to take these from the research bench to the bedside.
We are now reaching out to the community asking if we’ve missed any projects. If you see something missing, please let us know.

We continue to have outstanding guests on the Pediatric Moonshot podcast series. We just recorded Patrick Frias, CEO of Rady Children’s. With their merger with CHOC they are the largest children’s hospital in the United States.
We were also honored to have Vittorio Gallo, who is the senior vice president and chief scientific officer for Seattle Children’s Research Institute and serves as a member of Seattle Children’s Executive Leadership Team.
